Fencing Along a Retaining Wall: The City of Jackson's New Walkway and Drainage Channel
New Title

The Project
The City of Jackson is building a new walkway alongside a new drainage channel, and we installed the fencing that ties the two together. A long block retaining wall holds the walkway up above the channel. Our black ornamental fence runs along the top of that wall, following every curve and step down the line.
Down below, a rock-lined channel and fresh erosion-control matting carry stormwater away from the neighborhood. Up top, people will have a safe place to walk with a clean, finished edge between them and the drop.
Why the Fence Matters Here
A retaining wall next to a drainage channel creates a real drop. Without a barrier, a walker, a kid on a bike, or someone out at night could step too close to the edge. The fence makes the walkway safe to use without anyone having to think about it.
It also keeps people out of the channel itself. After a heavy rain, that ditch can move a lot of water fast. A continuous fence line keeps the public on the path and away from the flow.
And it finishes the look. Ornamental fencing turns a utility project into something that feels like part of the neighborhood. The city gets a drainage fix and a walkway people will actually want to use.
Following the Wall
This wasn't a straight run across a flat yard. The wall curves along the channel, and the walkway steps down in levels as the grade drops. The fence had to do all of that with it.
Curves Long sweeping sections follow the wall's bend so the fence line reads as one smooth arc instead of a row of hard angles.
Steps Where the walkway drops to the next level, each panel steps down with the wall caps. Every section stays level and every gap at the bottom stays tight.
Mounting on the Wall Setting posts on a retaining wall takes more planning than digging holes in a yard. Each post has to be anchored so the fence is solid without weakening the wall underneath it.
The result is a fence that looks like it was designed with the wall from day one.
Built for a Drainage Site
A fence next to a drainage channel has to stand up to more moisture than most. A black powder-coated finish resists rust and holds its color through wet springs and hot summers, with no painting needed.
The open picket design matters here too. Wind and water pass right through, and city crews can see the channel from the walkway when they check on it after a storm. The fence stays out of the way of the job the channel is built to do.
Good Work for Our Hometown
Drainage projects don't always get much attention, but they make a big difference for the neighborhoods around them. We're glad we could help the City of Jackson turn this one into something safe and good-looking for the people who live nearby.
